Everything about the Passover Lamb was a picture of Jesus.

*  He was a Lamb without blemish (Exodus 12:5)

*  He was chosen on the 10 of Nisan (Exodus12:3), for on that day Judas went to the chief priests and offered to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. It was the buying or taking of a lamb which, according to law, must occur on the 10th of Nisan. Furthermore they put the exact value on Jesus as was foretold in Zachariah 11:12.

*  Not a bone of Jesus was broken when He died.

*  He was killed precisely the time the Passover lambs were to be slaughtered, just before the Passover began at sundown on Nisan 15 (Exodus 12:6).

*  After his death, his body was removed from the cross and placed in a borrowed tomb. This was done in order that he would not hang on a cross during the (Passover) Sabbath, Nisan 15.

When I see the Blood I will Pass over You

12 “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn–both men and animals–and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.  13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.”

Consider further evidence of a Wednesday burial (Passover beginning at 6pm). Mark 16:1 tells us that when the Sabbath (Passover) was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices (for Jesus’ body) and prepared them. Luke 23:56 states that the women prepared spices and then rested on the Sabbath (Saturday). A total reading of the Gospels paints us a picture.

The women saw Jesus’ body being laid in the tomb on a Wednesday afternoon (before the annual High Sabbath which began at 6 pm). They rested on the annual Sabbath (Passover) on Thursday, bought spices on Friday, and then rested according to the commandment on the weekly Sabbath (Saturday). After the weekly Sabbath, they intended to anoint Jesus’ body with perfumes and spices.
