John 14:12: Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father. The born-again believer in Jesus Christ has abilities through faith in Jesus to do the works that Jesus performed while He was on earth, and even more.
I am a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, a sinner saved by grace, I am just like every other born-again believer as I share with you some of my past experiences. Remember, it’s all about Jesus.
Consider for a moment Matthew 12:22 where we are told: Then there was brought to Him a demon-possessed man who was blind and dumb, and He healed him, so that the dumb man spoke and saw. And all the multitudes were amazed. And then consider a few of my experiences in Haiti through Jesus.
A Mute Teenager is Loosed and Free
A woman brought her daughter to see a doctor, hoping beyond hope that an American doctor could help her teenager. The 17-year-old daughter was mute, had never spoken since birth, and appeared to be mentally challenged as she was led by her mother’s hand into the clinic, her head hanging low. The doctor was unable to do anything for the girl but decided to send her for prayer. My interpreter, Marie, and I sat down with the two of them in the counseling tent. The mother stated the immediate family were Christians and attended church regularly. They also regularly read Scripture to their daughter, mainly Psalms and Proverbs. During the conversation, it was revealed by the mother that there was voodoo in the family background. With the thought that possibly she was bound by generational spirits, I asked the mother if she would mind if I did some commanding against any evil spirits that might be in the daughter’s life. The mother agreed. After prayer I started commanding any generational spirits binding this girl to leave in the name of Jesus. Marie was translating what I was saying for the mother. After a few minutes the girl began to nod as though she understood what was going on and agreed with the commands. Finally, I tried to speak to the girl about accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior. She nodded she wanted to trust in Him. I told her I would lead her through a sinner’s prayer, and I would keep stopping while Marie translated. If what I was saying was her will then she would need to just nod. About halfway through the prayer the spirits left, and the girl began repeating verbally what Marie was translating to her. She was speaking for the first time. Her mother was praising God and was so happy and excited. At the end of the prayer the girl kept on speaking for several minutes and Marie told me she first thanked the Lord for her new life in Christ and then started quoting Scriptures, apparently Scriptures she had heard through the family reading to her for years. We all praised God for His grace and the mother, and her daughter walked away bouncing on their feet. Apparently, the generational spirits had this girl bound up. Once the spirits released her from the bondage, she was able to speak, trust Jesus, and gain a new life in Christ. God is so gracious!
A-fib in Leogane
As leader of a medical/dental team, upon arriving in Haiti I always had an orientation the first evening. I told the team to be very sensitive to what the Haitians were telling them and don’t assume everything is medical. If a patient said the problem was mystical or spiritual, believe them and send for me.
The first day of clinic one of the doctors sent for me to come to the room where he was seeing patients. Upon entering I observed an elderly woman lying on a board we were using as an exam table.
The doctor told me that her heart was in a-fib, but she said the problem wasn’t medical but mystical. Discussing the situation with the woman she stated that she was a born-again Christian but at one time she had sought help from a Voodoo witch doctor. He did help her and she “got better” but now this problem was a result of that encounter.
Reality is that when the Lord blesses us in some way it is a gift of love and there is no required payback. However, when Satan and his evil spirits “bless” us in some way repayment will come at a greater price later.
I asked her if she wanted to get rid of any spirits involved and she said “yes.” So, I led her through taking her authority in Jesus, confessing the sin, and commanding the spirits connected to leave and take the a-fib problem with her heart with them. She did and then stated she was feeling OK now. She sat up on the edge of the exam table and when the doctor listened to her heart, he stated that her heart sounded as strong as his now. The woman left with no additional problems.
This is not to say that all medical problems are a direct result of demonic activity, but I have found at times they can be.
I Am Unable to Conceive and My Husband and I Desire a Child
In accordance with James Chapter 5 I laid hands on her and anointed her with oil, and several weeks later was told that she was pregnant with their first child. God is so good. It’s all about Jesus.
