The Bible and Sexual Relations between Evil Spirits & Humans
Demons and Sex with Humans
Demons who specialize in having sex with human beings, both male and female, are very common. For centuries they have been known and written about. They are known as incubus and succubus. An incubus is a demon who takes on the male sexual role and has sexual intercourse with female human beings. A succubus is a demon who takes on the female sexual role and has sexual intercourse with male human beings. These spirits, although unable to take human form, do engage in full sexual intercourse with humans but cannot produce sperm and therefore are incapable of procreating children. Angels on the other hand can take on full human form.
The Genesis Account
The first step in learning what the Bible teaches about sexual relations between fallen angels and humans is to study the account in Genesis regarding the relationship between the sons of God and the daughters of men found in Genesis 6:1-4
The Bible states: “Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
Note in the Scripture quote above that it states “In those days, and also afterward.” The activity continued on after the flood.
Who are the sons of God? Does this refer to pagan deities; to pagan rulers; to angels; or to the descendants of the lineage of Seth? With reference to the flood, the sons of God were fallen angels (watcher angels) and the daughters of men were human women. This does not mean that the women were raped or abducted by the fallen angels. Actually the opposite appears to be true. The women gave themselves to the angelic beings to be their sexual partners, probably with the full consent of their families. This certainly makes the picture of human depravity so terrible that it certainly justifies God’s decision to destroy the human race.
One group of angels mentioned in the Bible are “watcher angels.” These angels are supervisors and agents used by God in control of world government. They may also be involved in decision making and executing decrees that affect world affairs. (Daniel 4:13,17,23). According to the book of Enoch this is the class of angels described here as “the sons of God” some of who entered into illicit sexual union with women. It is also possible that this class of angels are the territorial spirits who are the subject of much of the power encounter efforts today.
As has been pointed out above, “watcher angel” is found in Daniel 4:13,17,23 in the Bible. It was very common in Jewish apocalyptic and some non-canonical Christian literature. In Daniel 4 each is described as an “angelic watcher a holy one.” They apparently are involved in major decisions involving the earth (v. 17). When they are described as moving, they are always seen as coming down from heaven to earth (vv. 13,23). Therefore, they partly control the affairs of men on earth.
Enoch writes of an angelic rebellion under Semyaza who was the leader of the Watchers. 200 of the Watchers in turn rebelled against the lordship of God under Zemyaza. Their primary act in declaring their independence from God was to descend to earth, taking on human form, to lust after mortal women. They then take as sexual partners all the women they want and children come out of this union. This leads to the degradation of the human race. The Watchers, in turn, are punished by God, and the human race comes under God’s judgment in the flood. This lends support for the view that angelic-sexual exploitation of women is indicated in Genesis 6.
Additionally, the ‘angel’ interpretation is the oldest view and that of most modern commentators. It is assumed in the earliest Jewish exegesis (e.g., the books of 1 Enoch 6:2ff; Jubilees 5:1), LXX, Philo (DeGigant 2:358), Josephus (Ant. 1:3:1) and the Dead Sea Scrolls (1 QapGen 2:1; CD 2:17-19). The New Testament (2 Peter 2:4, Jude 6, 7) and the earliest Christian writers (e.g., Justin, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Tertullian, Origen) also take this line.”
Can Spirit Beings take on Human Bodies? Yes!
Just consider for a moment in Genesis 19 where we are told that two angels came to Sodom in the evening and Lot invited them into his home for the night and to wash their feet. These angels were in human form. Once in Lot’s home the Bible tells us that Lot made a feast and the angels ate the meal. The men of the city of Sodom had also seen these angels in human form for we are told they came to Lot’s home and wanted them brought out that the men of Sodom could have sex with them. Lot tried to offer his daughters instead but the men of Sodom insisted. Further we are told that Lot was outside the home trying to reason with the Sodomites and was finally pulled into the house by the angels in human form.
If God’s angels can take on human form there is absolutely no reason to believe that evil fallen angels cannot take on human form. The angels who came to Sodom apparently were very appealing to the Sodomites.
We can see from Matt. 22:30 and Luke 20:34-36 that angels do not marry, but this does not mean they can’t take human form and have sexual relations, especially when the Bible tells us that people have entertained angels without even knowing it (Heb. 13:2). This means that angels can take on human appearance to such a convincing state that they can’t be distinguished from people. If this is the case, then it would seem logical that an angel (a fallen one) could imitate a human physical form including the sexual organs.
The reality is that we do not know all the abilities of angels. But we do know they have great abilities based on the earliest Jewish Exegesis, and are able to manifest themselves as humans which has been verified in Scripture as we see from the following passage: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” (Heb. 13:2). Since they can appear in human form unbeknownst to people, and with the testimonies of those who have had sexual relations with them, it is evident that a fallen angel manifesting itself in human form is able to have sexual relations with a human being.
